How does rhinoplasty improve breathing?
Some people have trouble breathing due to their nose shape or structure. A previous trauma can also cause problems while breathing through the nose. Rhinoplasty surgery is designed to open or improve the nasal passages so you can breathe easier.
Why can't I breathe better right after nasal surgery?
Forma Plastic Surgery has performed countless successful rhinoplasty procedures in Scottsdale. However, results may not be noticeable right away. It usually takes 2 – 4 weeks for the tissues to heal from rhinoplasty surgery. The nose is usually swollen and bruised during this time, which is what contributes to impaired breathing through the nose. Patients will receive a set of rhinoplasty recovery guidelines to speed up healing and make sure the nose heals properly.
How can I ensure better breathing during rhinoplasty recovery?
- Take all medications as prescribed by your plastic surgeon. These help with the healing process.
- Rinse your nose with a saline solution to keep the nasal passages free from bacteria and debris.
- Avoid engaging in strenuous activities until you have been cleared by our team. Some exercises, like running and jogging, can cause excess swelling and bleeding.
- Do not pick at the nose or inside the nostril area with your fingers. Picking could tear the healing tissue and prevent proper healing.
- Apply cold compresses around the nose several times per day to minimize discomfort.
- Sleep with your head in an elevated position to reduce swelling and inflammation.
