What is Microneedling?
Repair and restore aging skin with Microneedling! Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, at Forma Plastic Surgery is an anti-aging treatment that uses a device with fine needles to create micro-injuries safely and effectively in the complexion. These micro-injuries stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin. These two nutrients boost the overall health and appearance of your skin. This treatment is taken to the next level with the use of a hyaluronic acid serum that maximizes the treatments efficacy. Microneedling addresses a wide range of skin concerns such as scarring, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone, skin texture, and pigmentation issues. Please schedule an appointment with our Licensed Medical Aesthetician, Kacey LA, CLT, CPT, to learn more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to customize your treatment.

Am I A Candidate For Microneedling?
You could be a candidate for microneedling if you experience light or mild skin issues, like a decrease in firmness or an uneven texture. Microneedling procedures may also improve the look of pores, stretch marks, skin imperfections, discoloration, and scars. You should be willing to wait a while before seeing benefits from your microneedling procedure since the collagen and elastin will need a month or longer to have an effect on the complexion, but you will see natural-looking skin improvements and achieve better overall skin health.
What to Expect from Microneedling
You may be a good candidate for microneedling treatments if you experience slight or moderate skin issues, like rough skin texture or reduced elasticity. Collagen induction therapy treatments can also reduce the appearance of scars, skin tone, pigmentation, acne scars, stretch marks, and enlarged pores. You must be willing to wait before seeing your results because your collagen and elastin levels need time to increase.
Microneedling takes about 30 – 60 minutes to complete, and we perform the procedure in one of our private treatment rooms. A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for comfort. Before starting the procedure, we will clean the skin to remove any oils or lotions. Next, the handpiece passes evenly over the complexion while creating micro-injuries. This process encourages the production of essential skin nutrients called collagen and elastin. After completing your microneedling, we may apply a topical treatment, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), Exosomes or a hyaluronic acid serum. PRP therapy provides a nutritional boost for your skin, and it will absorb deeply into the layers of your complexion. Finally, we clean the skin and you receive a moisturizer with SPF to protect your sensitive skin from sun exposure.
After your treatment, skin will be slightly pink and may feel similar to a sunburn. Redness should dissipate within the first 24 hours. Post-microneedling, we require our patients to avoid the sun, heat like saunas, and working out for 72 hours. Microneedling is recommended as a series of treatments. Our licensed medical aesthetician performs an in-depth skin evaluation to determine a customized treatment plan for your skincare desires.
Microneedling FAQ
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
During the process of microneedling, channels are created that help other treatments penetrate the deeper layers. That's why microneedling is often combined with other skin treatments, such as special serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Other maintenance treatments compliment microneedling such as dermaplaning and DiamondGlow. These treatments enhance the results of microneedling. In your consultation, our team can explain what treatments would enhance your microneedling and which would most benefit your skin.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Typically, patients need 3 – 6 treatments to get optimal results; however, the number of treatments you require will depend on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling may be done every 4 – 6 weeks. In your initial consultation, our aesthetic team will be able to estimate the number of treatments needed after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. Once you have reached your goal, we recommend scheduling maintenance treatments two times a year.
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
In general, microneedling is appropriate for all skin tones and types. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are very few side effects after the treatment. Microneedling can be performed on most areas of skin, including the arms, face, neck, chest, and legs. Microneedling is not recommended if you've been on Accutane recently, or if you have an open wound, active skin infection, or herpes simplex. Additionally, you may not be able to get microneedling if you're pregnant, nursing, or undergoing radiation treatments.
How much does microneedling cost?
During your consultation, your aesthetician at Forma Plastic Surgery will evaluate your skin and then develop your customized treatment plan. After this, they will be able to explain your treatment costs and what to expect during the procedure. Our Scottsdale, AZ office may have specials on treatment packages, so be sure to ask about our deals during your appointment.
What exactly is microneedling and how does it relate to collagen development?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a nonsurgical treatment to rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps your skin stay smooth, supple, and firm. As you get older, your natural supply of collagen are reduced and your skin becomes thin and loses elasticity. Microneedling creates small wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries force your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. After a short recovery period, your complexion appears healthier, firmer, and brighter.
How should I care for my skin after microneedling?
After the procedure, it's important to follow your aesthetician's instructions for post-treatment care. This may include gentle cleansing, avoiding harsh skincare products, using sunscreen, and keeping the treated area moisturized. It's also advisable to avoid direct sun exposure and strenuous exercise for a few days after the treatment.
