What is Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation is a common cosmetic treatment that reshapes the chin for men and women who have a small and recessed chin or one they believe is too large. Many times when a chin lacks shape and size, it can create an undefined profile. Several aesthetic enhancements can be performed to highlight your chin, but one of the most effective procedures is placing a silicone implant to reconstruct a stronger jawline and a more defined profile. In Scottsdale, AZ, Dr. David C. Yao performs various alternatives to consider for your chin augmentation. Aside from implants, which are made in a number of sizes and shapes, nonsurgical treatments such as fillers or KYBELLA® can be used to reshape. For oversized chins, genioplasty should be considered. This treatment at Forma Plastic Surgery shaves and removes bone and cartilage to recontour your chin and jaw to a more appealing size.
What is Ear Augmentation?
Ears that stick outward and protrude, are asymmetrical or misshapen, or look oversized can negatively impact your self-confidence, especially when young. Ear reshaping surgery (also known as otoplasty) is a cosmetic treatment that helps to recontour the shape, size, and position of the ears to create a normal appearance. Dr. Yao in Scottsdale, AZ, has assisted many adults and children to overcome their fear of exposing their ears with this surgery. Regardless of the cosmetic issue, ear surgery at Forma Plastic Surgery allows a patient to show their face at any angle with a newfound confidence. If you or your child are concerned about the size or shape of their ears, schedule a consultation with Dr. Yao to get more information on ear reshaping surgery.

Who is a Candidate for Chin/Ear Augmentation?

During an initial consultation with Dr. Yao, we can assess your features and recommend a tailored treatment plan moving forward. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not suitable for chin or ear surgery at this time. Inform us about any medical conditions and medications you’re taking to ensure the safety of these procedures. We take the utmost care to meet your goals and deliver natural-looking results.
What can I expect during Chin augmentation?
During chin augmentation, general anesthesia will be administered or sedation by IV in some cases. An incision is made just under your chin. In this incision, a groove or pocket is created to keep the implant in place, which involves removing and shaving some of the bone to create grooves to hold your implant in position. The implant is placed through the incision and positioned over the bone, below your lower lip. In some cases, the incision can also be made inside the lower lip, where it connects to your gumline. Both incision points help to conceal scars. Thin stitches are used to connect and close the incisions, and your lower face will be wrapped with bandages.
What can I expect during Ear Surgery?
Cosmetic ear surgery is completed using general anesthesia or IV sedation. In many patients, the incision is made near the back of the ear or within the inner folds. During this procedure, cartilage will be reshaped to create a new contour and natural-looking appearance. It is common for each ear to be addressed during otoplasty to ensure they look and appear symmetrical. Once the ears are surgically corrected, the incisions are safely stitched together with sutures and bandaged so they can remain protected.
Chin/Ear Augmentation FAQ
Will chin augmentation fix my double chin?
Chin augmentation is meant to offer you a sharper, stronger look to the lower face. If you want to correct a double chin, you might be a better candidate for a liposuction procedure where the fat in your upper neck below the jawline (the submental area) is removed. Sometimes this technique on its own can create a new profile and look without chin augmentation surgery. We will explain your choices and give you our recommendations during your consultation.
Can I combine other facial surgeries with chin augmentation?
Some patients combine chin augmentation along with another facial surgery, such as cheek augmentation or rhinoplasty. We will help you decide which procedures match your concerns and goals during your consultation. It might be difficult to tell by yourself what procedure(s) will be the most beneficial, which is why your first appointment with us is crucial. We will use our cumulative years of experience and eye for aesthetically pleasing results to help you develop your custom plan.
Are there nonsurgical procedures to improve my chin?
If you have excess fat in your upper neck that can cause a double chin, KYBELLA is a minimally invasive treatment to improve the appearance of your chin. KYBELLA has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to eliminate fat in the submental area. This may be all you need, or KYBELLA may be performed with chin surgery for optimal results. Talk to us during your consultation so we can explain your options and decide what is going to best fit your goals.
How old should my child be to consider otoplasty?
Typically, children about 5 – 6 years of age are perfect candidates for otoplasty. While the ear is usually fully developed, the cartilage and tissue are still malleable, which makes it easy to reshape. This age is also great since it is before they start school or early in their schooling, so they can avoid being teased by classmates. Even though a lot of ear surgery patients are kids, we also perform ear surgery on adults.
Do I need to have both ears done or just one?
Many issues, including ears that are too large or stick out, occur in both ears, which means both will need to be corrected. During ear surgery, your surgeon will shape both ears to make them as equal as possible. However, if just one ear needs to be changed, the size and shape will be adjusted to match the other ear. When we develop your surgical plan, we will tell you whether one or both ears need to be corrected.
What about fixing stretched or torn earlobes?
The trend of oversized earrings and ear gauges is making earlobe reconstruction a popular surgery at Forma Plastic Surgery. If you're considering having earlobe reconstruction, schedule an appointment with our experienced team of plastic surgeons. We will examine your ear and then let you know what could be done to restore your earlobes.
