What is a Lower Body Lift Surgery?
Lower body lift surgery is a body contouring procedure that eliminates hanging skin and fat to reshape and lift specific parts of the body. These changes can happen because of age, weight loss, and pregnancy. Lower body lift surgery focuses on the mid-section and the lower body, including the abdomen, buttocks, flanks, low back, and upper thighs. Depending upon the amount of skin removed, we may make an incision around the waist, which provides the greatest skin excision and lift results. A lower body lift is a significant procedure and can completely contour a patient’s lower body. Our plastic surgeons have extensive experience with lift surgeries. At Forma Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, AZ, a lower body lift surgery allows patients to reach their weight loss goals and finally complete their body transformation.

What to Expect with a Lower Body Lift
Ideal candidates for lower body lift surgery are patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and may become confronted with additional challenges. These challenges include loose, wrinkled skin on the upper thighs and buttocks or saggy skin on the stomach. It's helpful for those who are considering this procedure to have realistic expectations. Additionally, this surgery does have additional challenges.
- Scarring is a part of this surgery because of the large incision.
- Compared to most elective surgeries, a lower body lift does have a lengthy recovery period. If you have work or have small children, it is important to plan your surgery in advance.
- You must be at a stable weight before undergoing this procedure.
At the start of your surgery, we administer general anesthesia. The surgery time may be quite lengthy, taking around 4 – 7 hours. Often, we place the incision along the area where a belt is worn, which is why it is known as a circumferential 360, or in some cases, a beltectomy. After carefully making the incision, we use liposuction to remove excess fat and excise any excess skin. Next, the remaining tissue is pulled tight and attached with stitches.
Following your procedure, compression garments may be worn on the lower body to control swelling, bruising, or bleeding. Generally, many patients require at least one night's stay in the hospital. It takes many patients about two or more weeks to get back to easy activities, and in some cases, up to six months before they can get back to more strenuous movements, including exercise.
